UNITED NATIONS ENVIRONMENT PROGRAMME

Nedbank Group was the first South African bank to join the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiatives (UNEP FI) unit in February 2004 and continued its support during 2008 by cochairing the UNEP FI African Task Force, which addresses sustainability issues in the African context. UNEP FI is a public-private partnership between the United Nations and the worldwide financial sector and sees close collaboration between more than 280 banks, insurance and reinsurance companies, fund managers and venture capitalists to develop and promote links between the environment and financial performance. Nedbank remains involved in the biodiversity and human rights workstreams as well as with the Global UNEP FI Steering Committee. Nedbank also participated in the Climate Change Working Group’s Project Energy Efficiency Survey conducted during 2008.
