Nedbank Group places top priority on gender equity – both within its own business and across South African business and industry in general. This commitment was validated during 2008 when the group was awarded the Africa Banker Gender Sensitivity Award as the bank that showed the greatest commitment and success in improving gender equality and advancing the cause of women in the workplace.
In addition to the focused skills development programmes and targeted recruitment and retention strategies that are in place to attract and retain talented women, Nedbank Group has a very successful Women’s Forum that ensures that the issues and challenges facing female employees are highlighted and addressed and that their successes are celebrated and shared.
The group’s commitment to women also extends well beyond the workplace. Nedbank works closely with its BEE partner, Wiphold, in finding and maximising opportunities to uplift the women of our nation, while the sponsorship of the Businesswomen’s Association (BWA) enables the group to play a part in the ongoing development of entrepreneurial and professional skills among female business leaders. The Nedbank Foundation, too, is involved in economic- development work directly aimed at women and children.
